An urban grocery coming to The Gaslight District
We’re in the midst of a food movement. The trend to choose the small format grocery has been in the making for several years now, but combine this with pedestrian focused walkable neighbourhoods and the local food-small farm explosion and you will see a tremendous return to sole proprietor small urban grocery stores. Who really needs two glued together family size packs of Fruit Loops anyways?
“It’s no coincidence that thriving urban areas tend to have a great urban grocery anchor. I think of Vincenzo’s in Waterloo or Pusateri’s in Toronto as examples of the type of Urban grocery that will anchor The Gaslight District” says Scott Higgins, President of HIP Developments.
Be it local butchers, dairy farmers, bakers, a sustainable fishery or an organic farmer The MRKT will focus on sourcing fresh, local fare all in one convenient stop and a mere one minute stroll from the lobby of The Gaslight Condominiums towers.
“We love the idea of food being local and of supporting our community,” says Higgins, “The MRKT at The Gaslight District will complement the Cambridge Farmers’ Market, and provide residents with fresh food at their doorstep and eliminate the need to drive to a big box food store and endure an aisle dance with an oversized shopping cart!”
Complete a cafe with outdoor patio space and seating, The MRKT is set to open in the first phase of The Gaslight District and will serve not only those that call The Gaslight District Condominiums home, but will also become a regular stop for those visiting Galt and The Gaslight Square.
